The House
Holly Bank is an impressive Victorian town house on the edge of Newton Stewart. Originally the house was built for a local banker, and as well as being a large family house, the building has also been a school, a nursing home and a hotel. It has the potential to make a superb bed and breakfast establishment.
Holly Bank was bought by our family in 1997 after it had been empty for around four years. We have enjoyed living in this grand old house but now the family have left home. It is with regret that we have realised that now is the time to move on and find something that fits our current lifestyle better.
Over the ten years that we have been here, we have tackled the big projects in the house - major works on the roof, rebuilding the kitchen, central heating, most of the windows, the plumbing, the electrics, etc. There are still some projects to do but most are now surface decoration and styling. We decided to use some of the large garden by running a small campsite on what used to be the lawn - that still leaves plenty of garden to do other things!
